Front Brake Lever Guards
Motorcycle brake lever guards originated as a safety feature in competitive racing, particularly in MotoGP.
They were developed to prevent accidental activation of the front brake lever during close maneuvers or collisions, which can cause a sudden loss of control, often leading to crashes.
The decision to make lever guards mandatory came after several high-profile incidents in MotoGP and other racing circuits where handlebars touched and the brake lever was accidentally pressed during close racing. This problem became increasingly significant as motorcycles advanced and racing became more competitive. In 2012, following these incidents, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) mandated brake lever guards in MotoGP to improve rider safety. Other racing leagues and track organizations soon followed, making brake lever guards a standard safety feature across most forms of motorcycle racing
Brake lever guards have since made their way into street motorcycles, where they provide an added layer of protection in case of minor collisions, helping prevent accidental braking during everyday riding and in tight urban traffic conditions.
